Section library

Diamonds comes with a library containing standard steel sections. You can open the library using the menu ‘Edit Section library…’. The following dialogue appears:

  • In the middle, you will find a list of all the defined sections and on the right the corresponding properties.
    • Sections preceded by the icon are standard sections. It is not possible to edit standard sections. However, you can copy a standard section using . You’ll be able to edit the copy
    • Sections preceded by the icon are user defined.
    • If a section is used in the current project, the button will light up when you select the section section.
    • If you want a user section to be available during the entire session ( = until you close Diamonds), click the button .
    • If you want the user section to be always available in the library, hit the button .
  • On right of the list, there is a graphical representation of the section and the section properties. The properties are organized in 2 tab pages:
    • the tab page “Geometry” containing the dimensions
    • the tab page “Advanced” containing all the calculated properties
      The calculated properties are the same those listed in the dialogue “Cross-section properties. Consult that article for the meaning of each property.
  • The buttons on the left allow you to adjust the content of the library.
    • Sort the sections in alphabetic order by clicking and . If you prefer the sections to appear in different order, you can drag and drop them with the mouse.
    • Click to add a new section.
    • Click to remove the selected section.
    • Click to copy the selected section. You can adjust the section after this.
    • Click to see the number of sections belonging to each group.
  • The buttons on bottom allow you to import / export the library.
    • Export the content of the current library with .
    • Import an external library with .
  • The filter on the left allows you to determine which sections should be visible in this dialogue: .
