Drawing structure elements

When creating hierarchical structures using the Level Manager, Diamonds offers a quick method to draw columns, beams and walls:

  • to draw columns
  • to draw beams
  • to draw walls

Drawing structural elements is conducted in an analogue way as drawing a point or line in the model window with one exception that a cross-section is immediately assigned to the point or line. It is worth adding that:

  • The beams drawn on the edges of plates will always be positioned so that their upper surface is aligned with the upper surface of the plate. It implies that the beam and the plate will work together. However, you can eliminate this eccentricity using the button (see Eccentricities).
Important: this rule does not apply to isolated beams.
  • You always draw the top of a column and the upper edge of a wall. So the generated elements are always situated below the drawn points and lines. The height of the generated columns/walls depends on the height of the level.
Note that you can also model the walls whose upper edges are inclined. As for the lower edges, they will need to be horizontal.

Diamonds updates the list of all the cross-sections already set in the project for all structural elements. Once the button for drawing a column, a beam or a wall is active, you can select a desired cross-section in the drop-down menu. If no structural elements have been set, Diamonds sets a standard element for you. Next, the elements that are not a part of the calculation project will be automatically deleted from the list.
