Drawing parametric forms

You can easily generate arcs, circles, ellipses and rectangles. Start by selecting one or more points and then click .

  • If you select a single point, a dialogue box for creating an arc or a circle will open, with its centre at the selected point.
A circle or an arc will always be drawn in a plane parallel to a plane XZ, XY or ZY. Next to the plane, there is also a radius, a start angle and an end angle as well as the number of segments in which the arc or circle will be divided. The positive angles are measured in the way shown in the illustration. Note that the arcs or circles are always formed by straight lines.
  • If you select two points, you are asked to choose.
Either the two points constitute the centre of two circles or two arcs, parallel to the plane XZ, XY or ZY. Therefore, you open the same dialogue box as above.
Or, Diamonds constructs a rectangle or a parallelogram, where the two points constitute the two points diagonally opposite.
Either the two points form the bounding box of an ellipse, parallel to the XZ, XY or ZY plane. This dialog box opens:

The ellipse is always drawn in a plane parallel to the XZ, XY or ZY plane. Note the number of segments of the ellipse below. An ellipse is always approximated by straight segments.

  • When three points are selected, you need to make a choice as well.
    • Either the three selected points constitute the centre of a circle or an arc, parallel to the plane XZ, XY or ZY.
    • Or, Diamonds constructs a circle or an arc passing through the three selected points. Next, you set the number of segments of each part of the arc between two points.
  • If you select more than 3 points, a new dialogue box will open to generate an arc or a circle whose centers coincide with the selected points.
