Deformations

1•2•Build has three buttons to display the deformations:

  • : displays the deformations in the direction of the X-axis
  • : displays the deformations in the direction of the Y-axis
  • : displays the deformations in the vertical XY plane

This allows you to see how the structure deforms in the vertical XY plane. Please note that the scale of the deflection causes the deflection to be exaggerated in relation to the geometry of the structure itself. This deformation in the vertical XY plane cannot be selected in the case of envelopes: all possible deformation states then result in an “envelope cloud” that can no longer be represented by one or two lines.

Note that these are always elastic deformations. The deformation is therefore correct for elements in steel or timber, but not for cross-sections in concrete. For concrete, the cracked deflection after creep must be calculated. This can be a factor of 3 to 5 times greater than the elastic deformation. However, it is not possible to calculate the cracked deflection after creep with 1•2•Build. This is possible in our software Diamonds.
