How to interpret the reinforcement graph

There a 4 types of lines on the reinforcement graph:

  • A horizontal dashed line, representing the minimum reinforcement.
  • A black dashed line, representing the longitudinal reinforcement to comply with the ULS requirements.
  • A black solid line, representing the longitudinal reinforcement to comply with the ULS and SLS requirements.
  • A red solid line, representing the compression reinforcement. In order to comply with the SLS requirements, the additional needed reinforcement will be placed at both tension and compression side. Otherwise, the neutral axis will change, leading to a less economical design.
