This article explains how to send a SAP2000 model to UBSM, using BIM Expert.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1. Preparation in SAP2000<\/strong><\/h2>\n

An UBSM file can handle geometry, loads, mesh, analysis settings, results and connections.\u00a0 So, the export can be as complete as you prefer, as long as these items are present in SAP2000. If you want to send result information, make sure the results are calculated and stored.<\/p>\n

2. Send the SAP2000 model to UBSM
<\/strong><\/h2>\n

2.1 From SAP2000 to BIM Expert<\/h3>\nIn the Model tab, select \u2018Export\u2019. Next, choose the destination software manufacturer, namely ‘Computer and Structures, Inc’ (CSI) . Click\u00a0\"\" to continue.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nChoose ‘SAP2000’\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

2.2.1 Settings<\/h4>\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nSelect your SAP2000 version, the destination and analysis model.\u00a0 The destination can be either:\r\n
    \r\n \t
  • To a new empty model in a new instance – after the file is loaded you immediately will be prompted to save the file<\/li>\r\n \t
  • To current instance and new empty model<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nSAP2000 will launch automatically in case of ‘new instance’ choice.\r\n\r\nNext, the BIM Expert sections and materials must be mapped with SAP2000’s section and materials. BIM Expert will try to find as many automatic mapping matches as possible. In case all sections and materials find a match, you will not see any dialogs for mapping.\r\n

    2.2.2 Material mapping<\/h4>\r\nIn a new file, SAP2000 only has 2 materials present: Steel S355 and Concrete 30\/37. Chances are real that you see the material mapping dialog.\u00a0 If you cannot find a suited\u00a0counterpart in the SAP2000 model, the material can be added as new.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

    2.1.3 Section mapping<\/h4>\r\nA new SAP2000 model has no cross-sections. So all will be added as new.\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\n \n

    2.2 From BIM Expert to UBSM<\/h3>\n

    In the Model tab, select \u2018Export\u2019. Next, choose UBSM File. UBSM is BuildSoft’s neutral file format, XML based. Click\u00a0\"\" to continue.<\/p>\n

    2.2.1 Settings<\/h4>\n

    Choose the formatting style and whether the file should be opened after saving.Select the elements to be included in the conversions.\u00a0 Click ‘Continue’ to finish the export.<\/p>\n

    Pick a location to save the UBSM file.<\/p>\n
