{"id":11688,"date":"2023-12-18T08:44:26","date_gmt":"2023-12-18T08:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=11688"},"modified":"2024-08-21T09:53:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T09:53:57","slug":"can-i-model-a-concrete-beam-with-openings-in-diamonds","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/nl\/knowledge-base\/can-i-model-a-concrete-beam-with-openings-in-diamonds\/","title":{"rendered":"Can I model a concrete beam with openings in Diamonds?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(NL: sparingen)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some ways of handling beams with openings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Take the opening into account in the global analysis in Diamonds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no direct &amp; simple solution to deal with openings in concrete beams in Diamonds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a work-around that you can follow &#8211; for small &amp; simple models only(!):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Divide the beam in at least 3 parts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Position the middle part to be at the location of the opening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make the middle part have the length of the opening (more or less)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit the middle part with Section Utility so that the opening is present &#8211; this involves deleting a part of the section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calculate the model<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this method, you will understand that small openings can be ignored, they are not worth modelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Detailing of the reinforcement around the opening<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The detailing of the reinforcement around the opening cannot be done in Diamonds.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Theories on how to handle this can be found here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>[EN] Book &amp; Article &#8216;Concrete Beams with Openings&#8217; by M.A. Mansur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>[NL] <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cementonline.nl\/artikel\/gewapend-betonliggers-met-sparingen\">Article in Cement magazine<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can either use the above references to do the detailing by hand or use a software to help you, for example MatrixTools &#8211; Strut&amp;Tie. In this module, you can model the beam and its opening.
