To organize the tips, we distinguished 2 stages in the calculation process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Model build-up &amp; pre-design<\/strong>: you&#8217;re building up the Diamonds-model and want to test if it&#8217;s working well. You also want to get a first estimation of the section and estimate the feasibility of the project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Final design<\/strong>: you&#8217;re using the Diamonds-model to calculate the reinforcement, limited the deformation, to do unity check, to determine the reactions for the design of the foundation, to determine the internal to design the connections, &#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It&#8217;s not that easy to give recommendations that work for every model. So we listed up everything that pops into our mind.\u00a0It is then up to you to decide which of these tips are relevant to your model.<\/p>\n<h3>Model build-up &amp; pre-design<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Support foundations with a spring constant instead of soil layers.<br \/>\nSoil layers is a non-linear element. Non-linear behaviour takes longer to calculate.<\/li>\n<li>Use supports that bear both tension and compression.<br \/>\n<em>No tension<\/em> or <em>no compression<\/em> is a non-linear element. Non-linear behaviour takes longer to calculate.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/knowledge-base\/what-are-internal-plates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Avoid internal plates<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/knowledge-base\/what-are-linked-load-groups\/\">Link load groups<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>* This tip makes a lot of difference *<\/strong><br \/>\nEvery load group (whether it contains loads or not, whether if it&#8217;s included in the combination or not) takes up memory and increases the calculation time.<br \/>\nSo you need to delete unused load groups, even if they don&#8217;t contain loads. Note that deleting a load groups is not the same thing as deactivating the load group (= putting an\u00a0<span style=\"color: #e74c3c;\">\u2718<\/span>\u00a0before the load group in this dialog <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img_inline alignnone size-full wp-image-1779\" src=\"https:\/\/buildsoftsupport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ButtonLoadGroups.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"36\" height=\"35\" srcset=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ButtonLoadGroups.png 36w, https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ButtonLoadGroups-35x34.png 35w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 36px) 100vw, 36px\" \/>). Your really need to delete the load group.<\/li>\n<li>Define dead loads in the same load group(s) as much as possible.<br \/>\nSub load cases for a dead load is a fun feature, but following on from the previous tip, it is a memory consuming feature. We don&#8217;t recommend using a load group <em>Dead loads<\/em> containing 10 sub load cases.<\/li>\n<li>You can generate up to 24 wind load cases, but not all of them are always relevant.<br \/>\nThe number of relevant wind load cases depends on the roof shape and the number of interal pressure coefficients you have. Check <a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/knowledge-base\/how-to-define-wind-loads-in-diamonds\/\">this article for more info.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Use a coarse mesh size.<\/li>\n<li>Use Diamonds 2024 (or more recent). Improvements were made in this version to decrease the calculation time.<\/li>\n<li>Do a first order calculation without global imperfections.<br \/>\n<em>A second order calculation <\/em>and\u00a0<em>global imperfections<\/em> are both a non-linear behaviour. You hide the calculated part using the button\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"img_inline alignnone size-full wp-image-1601\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/KnopShowSelectionOnly.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"27\" height=\"24\" \/>. Then you select the next 1\/3 fo the model and perform the unity check.
