To make this possible, you must first make sure that the icon field <code>loads<\/code> within the palette active by clicking on it. Note that below <code>loads<\/code>,  <code>dead load<\/code> is indicated. All loads you define, will be considered dead loads and automatically taken into account with appropriate safety factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Now select the node 3 using the previously described manner (you might need to set the node numbers visible using the icon <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-7466\" style=\"width: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/KnpoToonGegevens.png\" alt=\"\"> from the toolbar button). The icon <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" class=\"wp-image-7249\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/KnpoPuntlastKnoop.png\" alt=\"\"> opens the following dialog allowing you to define a vertical load of 10kN. Confirm it with \u2018OK\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-73.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"946\" height=\"644\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-73.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18111\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">This vertical load point can also be defined using the \u2018descent of loads\u2019 function, (NOT available in the demo version). Select the entire span between the nodes 1 and 2 using a selection window (from top left to bottom right). With the icon <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" class=\"wp-image-7328\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/KnpoLijnlast.png\" alt=\"\"> apply a distributed load of 18kN\/m over the selected span:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-74.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-74.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18112\" width=\"668\" height=\"454\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Again, you can use the \u2018descent of loads\u2019 function to define this load. You now have the following permanent loads defined on the continuous beam:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-75.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1071\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-75.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18113\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Did you make a mistake when entering the loads? Don\u2019t panic, select the point or the span for which you want to correct the load. With the <kbd>DELETE<\/kbd> key on your keyboard, you can remove the corresponding loads, to then give the correct definition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Finally, we indicate which live loads is acting on the beam. Just click with the left mouse button on the arrow in the field <code>dead load<\/code>, which pull out the following list:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-59.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"128\" height=\"163\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17996\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Move the mouse to \u2018live loads\u2019, and select it by pressing the left mouse button. Now select the entire beam and define a uniformly distributed load of 10kN\/m:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-76.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1071\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-76.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18114\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">There you go. Dead and live loads are defined, while the self-weight of the beam is automatically calculated based on the cross-section dimensions.
