In the new window that appears you can now draw the axes of the truss that you want to dimension, or alternatively you can use Wizard for the rapid definition of standard type structures. For this, use the icon <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"38\" height=\"40\" class=\"wp-image-17796\" style=\"width: 24px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-31.png\" alt=\"\"> from the field <em>Geometry<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Now select the type of structure \u2018Portal frame\u2019 in the dialogue that appears and confirm with &#8216;<em>Start wizard<\/em>&#8216;:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17620\" width=\"323\" height=\"343\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">In the dialogue that appears you can change the geometry of the truss quickly on the basis of a limited number of parameters. Accept the default settings for geometry and boundary conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Note that in this dialogue, you can navigate with the buttons <em>&lt; Previous<\/em> and <em>Next &gt;<\/em> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-99.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"875\" height=\"306\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-99.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18189\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">To confirm the definition, click on &#8216;<em>Finish<\/em>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">You\u2019ll end up with the following definition of the frame:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-7.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1071\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17622\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loads<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Select the end of the truss girders and click on the icon <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" class=\"wp-image-7328\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/KnpoLijnlast.png\" alt=\"\"> . Enter the following load data:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-8.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"458\" height=\"252\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17624\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">The selection <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" class=\"wp-image-7326\" style=\"width: 32px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IcoonLijnlast4.png\" alt=\"\"> implies that the entered loads will be projected on the beam. Their value will be recalculated as a function of the angle the beam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Click <code>OK <\/code>and the following loads will be shown on the beams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-9.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1071\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17625\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Note that a wrong operation can be made undone using the instruction menu &#8216;<em>Edit &gt; Undo \u2026<\/em>&#8216; or by pressing the keys <kbd>CTRL<\/kbd> + <kbd>Z<\/kbd>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Besides the classic options for defining point loads and distributed loads, 1\u20222\u2022Build provides also wind and snow generators. To use the wind generator, select wind1, wind2, wind3 or wind4 first from the list of possible loads:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-100.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"106\" height=\"134\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-100.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18192\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Wind1 and wind2 may be used for a wind load in the direction left > right and upward &amp; downward respectively. Wind3 and wind4 can be analogously used to define wind from right to left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">When 1\u20222\u2022Build combines the loads, it will be automatically taken into account that wind loads can never occur together. The same remark applies also for snow1 and snow 2 when you\u2019re using the snow load generator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Now select the entire frame and click <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"30\" height=\"30\" class=\"wp-image-7518\" style=\"width: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/KnpoWindgenerator.png\" alt=\"\">:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"361\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN.png 361w, https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN-214x300.png 214w, https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN-36x50.png 36w, https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN-43x60.png 43w, https:\/\/support.buildsoft.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/VensterWindECEN-25x35.png 25w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Opt for example for an upward wind load from left to right and define the total length of the structure perpendicular to the wind direction. You should also define the distance between the frames (take 5m).
