Solution 1

• Install Diamonds/PowerConnect/BIM Expert 2020 or more recent. These versions no longer require the installation of an SQL instance.

Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.

This error is related to the database system (= SQL instance) used by Diamonds/ PowerConnect (version 2017 until 2019r02).

Solution 1

• Install Diamonds/PowerConnect/BIM Expert 2020 or more recent. These versions use a different type of database, which no longer requires the installation of an SQL instance.

Solution 2

• Uninstall all corrupt SQL instances. Be patient, uninstalling can take a moment.
• Restart the SQL Server (if you find it in the list):
  • Open Task Manager > tab page ‘Services’.
  • Click on ‘Open Services’.
  • Find the service ‘SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS14 or SQLEXPRESS14BS)’ > right mouse button > ‘Stop’.
  • Find the service ‘SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS14 or SQLEXPRESS14BS)’ > right mouse button > ‘Start’.
  • Close the task manager.
• Make sure there’re no remaining folders or files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.[Name_Of_The_Instance]
• Install a new SQL instance. Pay attention on the Server Configuration page:
  • When you get to the Server Configuration page as shown below, you will notice that the SQL Server Database Engine service is using the account NT Service\MSSQLSERVER.
  • Change the account from NT Service\MSSQLSERVER to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM by clicking on the drop-down box, selecting ‘Browse’ and then typing ‘SYSTEM’ in ‘Enter the object name to select’. Click on ‘Check Names’ so SYSTEM is underlined.
  • Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below.
• Run the Diamonds and/or PowerConnect installer. Select the newly installed SQL instance.

The SQL Server Express 2014 installation ended with exit code – *set of numbers*

• Verify if the C-drive is not compressed.
  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Find the C-drive.
  • Right mouse click on it -> Properties
  • If the option ‘Compress this drive to save disk space’ checked case, uncheck it to decompress the drive.
• Verify if the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ is not compressed.
  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Find the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\
  • Right mouse click on it -> Properties -> button ‘Advanced’
  • If the option ‘Compress contents to save disk space’ checked case, uncheck it to decompress the drive.
• Verify if the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\ is not compressed.
  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Find the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\
  • Right mouse click on it -> Properties -> button ‘Advanced’
  • If the option ‘Compress contents to save disk space’ checked case, uncheck it to decompress the drive.
• Run the Diamonds installer

Solution 2

• Uninstall the failed SQL database(s). The BuildSoft-databases usually contains ‘BS’ in their name.
• Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\*NameOfTheDatabase*\MSSQL\DATA
  *NameOfTheDatabase* is usually ‘MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS14’ or similar containing ‘BS’ (= short for BuildSoft) in the name.
• Delete all files starting with ‘bs’, like:
  • bs_Authentication
  • bs_Exchange
  • bs_Gateway
  • bs_UBSM
• Manually install a new SQL database. Give it a different name then then the previous databases.
• Run the Diamonds. Select the JUST CREATED SQL database (local)\SQLEXPRESS_The_Name_You_Gave from the list.

BullGuard blocks the installation of SQL Server 2014. Uninstall BullGuard before installing SQL Server 2014 (turning off BullGuard temporarily won’t do). Contact BullGuard for more information/other solutions.

• Download SQL Server 2014 from the Microsoft website. Choose between 32 and 64 bit.
• Run the installer.
  • Extract the setup in the suggested folder.
  • Select ‘New SQL Server stand-alone’.
  • Select ‘Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2014’ and click ‘Next’.
  • Accept the license terms and click ‘Next’.
  • Leave everything on default and click ‘Next’.
  • Change the name of the instance. Make it ‘SQLEXPRESS14BS’. The ‘BS’ is short for Buildsoft. Click ‘Next’.
  • Make sure the Startup Type is set to ‘Automatic’. Click ‘Next’.
  • Leave everything on default and click ‘Next’.
  • The installation will now start. This can take a while. When finished the status should be ‘Succeeded’.

Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server ‘{yourdomain\yourserver}’. Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain anc cannot be used with Windows authentication. (18452)

1. Click ‘Ok’
2. Cancel the setup
3. Run the Gateway setup again
4. Select a local database instance, for example ‘(local)\SQLExpress14’. 
5.  If there is no local database instance available, you should install a new one.

The following error occured:  Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation

Cause: Bullguard anti-virus

Solution 1

• Install Diamonds/PowerConnect/BIM Expert 2020 or more recent. These versions so a different type of database, which no longer requires the installation of an SQL instance.

Solution 2

• Uninstall Bullguard.
• Uninstall all corrupt SQL Server 2014 instances.
• Install SQL Server 2014.
• Install Diamonds and/or PowerConnect.
• Reinstall Bullguard again.

Solution

1. Click ‘Ok’
2. Cancel the setup
3. Run the Gateway setup again
4. Select existing database instance => the one you just have installed (in the above printscreen : SQLEXPRESS14BS)

Solution

No rights on current SQLExpress, so install a new instance.

The specified directory, “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\”, for the INSTALLSHAREDDIR parameter is not valid because this directory is compressed or is in a compressed directory. Specify a directory that is not compressed.

1. On the desired folder (in this case “C:\Program Files”) right click and go to Properties.
2. Click on Advanced button.
3. Uncheck the box Compress the drive to save space
4. Click Apply and then Ok.
5. Let the process finish.
